It appears that the popular social networking site Facebook has joined the fight against sexually transmitted diseases (STD). A recent campaign launched on the website aims to encourage individuals to talk about sex and share STD information in a creative and respectful environment.
The OneDecision campaign encourages young people to post a personal anecdote about the moment they realized it was important to practice safe sex and the ways they plan to do so. The program offers prizes, such as a free Apple iPad, to individuals who provide the most heartfelt, creative or inspiring story.
"You can make a a difference in reducing the number of HIV and STD infections through your daily actions and decisions," the campaign's Facebook page reads. "Making ONE DECISION can mean the difference between being infected and staying infection free."
Ideas posted by Facebook users on the website run the gamut – from abstaining from alcohol, talking to one's children about safe sex and sharing links and STD facts.
Wearing a condom every time you have sex is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of STDs. It is important to be open and honest with your partner about your sexual past and the importance of STD prevention.
