LifeStyles Harnesses the Power of Social Media to Donate Over 20,000 Condoms to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation
#KnowYourStatus Social Media Campaign Raises Awareness for National HIV Testing Day
Iselin, NJ (July 29, 2013) – The makers of LifeStyles® Condoms (“LifeStyles”), one of the nation’s leading condom brands, announced in June the launch of the #KnowYourStatus social media campaign, resulting today in a donation of over 20,000 condoms to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation.
Created to raise awareness for National HIV Testing Day on June 27, 2013, this campaign asked social media users to donate their status updates to the cause, with Lifestyles donating one condom to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation for every #KnowYourStatus hashtag featured on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram from June 25-27. The #KnowYourStatus campaign was recognized as one of the first to utilize the new Facebook hashtag, which resulted in over 12,000 dedicated status updates across participating platforms.
“Nearly 1.2 million people are living with HIV and almost one in five doesn’t know they are infected,” said Carol Carrozza, Vice President Sales & Marketing North America for Ansell Healthcare, the makers of LifeStyles Condoms. “We are proud to have partnered with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation to raise awareness surrounding the importance of knowing your status, and are grateful to work with an organization that shares our dedication to promoting HIV education and prevention.”
As part of the campaign, LifeStyles Condoms donated 10,000 condoms to Condom Nation, an AIDS Healthcare Foundation initiative embarking on a 25 state tour to give away 10 million free condoms and promote condom use and safer sex in America.
“It was an honor for AIDS Healthcare Foundation to partner with Lifestyles for the #KnowYourStatus social media campaign, which worked to engage and educate consumers in an innovative new way, increasing digital awareness for National HIV Testing day,” said James Vellequette, Director of Condom Nation. “This campaign aligned perfectly with AHF’s efforts to make condoms accessible to the Columbus, Ohio community and encourage everyone to ‘know their status’ by getting tested for HIV across the nation. ”

About AIDS Healthcare Foundation
AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is the world’s largest provider of HIV/AIDS medical care. The organization provides cutting edge medicine and advocacy regardless of ability to pay. Generating and defining new, innovative ways of treatment, prevention and advocacy is the hallmark of the foundation’s success. 96 cents of every dollar earned in AHF’s www.outofthecloset.org thrift stores and not-for-profit full service pharmacies (www.ahfpharmacy.org) go directly towards the free care and treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS both in the U.S. and globally.
AHF is currently leading a mass testing initiative to identify and treat the 25 million people who do not know they are infected. By advocating big goals — aiming to see an unprecedented 1 billion people tested each year — AHF hopes to eliminate older, more time-consuming methods. In 2013, AHF met another historical milestone by being the first organization in the United States to offer the 1 minute HIV Insti-Results test.
