A Sunny Disposition May Mean a Better Sex Life

We’ve all heard about how sex is intimately linked to psychology. People who are stressed out or anxious are much less likely to enjoy their sex lives and find it much more difficult to be satisfied in the bedroom.

Now, a study has found that these factors are all dependent on one another more than previously thought. Having a good time in the bedroom means partners must share a positive senses of empathy, self-esteem and autonomy.

A sunny disposition may mean a better sex life“Sexual health is more than the absence of sexually-transmitted infection, unintended pregnancy, violence or other problems. It is the presence of sexual well-being,” said Adena Galinsky, co-author of the study. The findings are being touted as the first data that indicate a relationship between sexual satisfaction and “key developmental assets.”

Researchers evaluated 3,237 young adults between the ages of 18 to 26, using information gathered by the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health.

Young women who had high self-esteem and autonomy, and a strong sense of empathy, appeared able to reach three different types of sexual pleasure. Young men seemed to benefit from pronounced feelings of empathy as well.

“Our hypothesis is that empathetic individuals are more responsive to a partner’s needs, and thus initiate a positive feedback cycle,” said Galinsky.

The findings also showed that, while 9 out of 10 men experienced orgasm from sex, less than half of woman did the same. Galinsky speculates that this is because women face more obstacles during sexual expression.

Sexually active individuals should also take steps to avoid sexually transmitted infections by becoming familiar with condom FAQs – while condoms can’t guarantee complete protection from STDs, they can significantly lower the chance of infection. Other products, such as the LifeStyles™ vibrating ring, may help those who are having trouble achieving sexual satisfaction.
